Steve has been involved in adventure travel since the 1980s when he operated Samburu Expeditions. In those days the tours lasted 3 to 6 months, travelling overland through a dozen African countries.
Steve has spent many years as a teacher of Outdoor Education and Recreation Leadership among other things at High Schools in Ontario and in the Okanagan where he now makes his home. Over many years of teaching he developed a laid-back style and caring manner that won over the hearts and minds of students and colleagues alike. His great sense of humour and genuine enthusiasm are infectious.
Steve is an outdoor emergency first aid specialist, a Canadian Ski Patrol first aider, First Aid Instructor and Instructor Trainer. His home hill is beautiful Silver Star Mountain near his home in Vernon BC. Steve has certification from CFOKE -Canadian Federation of Ocean Kayak Educators
and ACSKG - Association of Canadian Sea Kayak Guides and SKGABC - Sea Kayak Guide Association of BC. He has a Level 3 Kayak certification from Paddle Canada and will complete his Paddle Canada Level 2 kayak Instructor certification in 2011. Steve loves learning - that's why he loves teaching and is continually involved in the learning process - "I believe in approaching every possible experience with a beginner's mind - we can only really be ready and able to learn if we accept with humility that we will always have so much to learn" |
